CTD guns down TTP terrorist in Karachi operation

Published on: July 28, 2025 2:10 PM

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies killed three terrorists in Karachi’s Manghopir area late Sunday night. One suspect, Zafran, was involved in the November 2024 attack on Chinese engineers at a Karachi textile mill. Police raided a known terrorist hideout based on detailed intelligence reports.

Zafran carried a Rs20 million bounty and was also connected to a previous assault on the Karachi Police Office. When police approached the hideout, the terrorists opened fire, leading to an hour-long gunfight. Authorities seized a suicide vest, three grenades, a Kalashnikov rifle, two pistols, and a large stockpile of ammunition.

CTD Chief Raja Umar Khattab confirmed that the three terrorists belonged to a banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) cell sent from Afghanistan. The cell is believed to have five members, but only three were present during the raid. Police are searching for the remaining two suspects and conducting further investigations.

The November attack seriously wounded two Chinese nationals working in Karachi. In response, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi promised to enhance security for Chinese citizens in Pakistan. He stressed the importance of protecting workers tied to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

This operation marks a significant step in combating terrorism in Karachi. Officials continue to monitor TTP networks closely to prevent future attacks on both local communities and foreign nationals. Security forces remain vigilant amid ongoing threats.
