Published on: March 19, 2026 3:34 PM

President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a special remission in prison sentences to mark Eid ul-Fitr and Pakistan Day, offering relief to eligible inmates across the country. The move reflects a traditional gesture of compassion and national goodwill during significant occasions.

In addition to the remission, the president also approved several important legislative amendments aimed at strengthening governance and institutional frameworks. These measures highlight the government’s ongoing efforts to update laws in line with current administrative and social needs.

The approved bills include amendments to key laws such as the Pakistan Citizenship Act, Newspaper Employees Conditions of Service, Zakat and Ushr system, National Archives, and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority. Furthermore, reforms related to housing development and national emblems were also endorsed to improve regulatory oversight.

Meanwhile, the president sanctioned the appointment of Eazaz Aslam Dar as a member of the Federal Public Service Commission under the Balochistan quota. This decision is expected to support fair representation and enhance the commission’s role in merit-based recruitment processes.

Moreover, Asif Ali Zardari approved the conferment of Sitara-i-Imtiaz on Professor Sarwar Muhammad Khawaja, Rashid Malik, and Zain ul Abideen Ahsan in recognition of their outstanding services. These honours underline the importance of acknowledging contributions across various professional fields.

Overall, the combined decisions reflect a balanced approach that blends humanitarian relief, legislative progress, and national recognition. As the country prepares for festive celebrations, these measures aim to promote unity, institutional strength, and appreciation for public service.
