Karachi’s Korangi area hit by intense fire near oil refinery

Published on: March 29, 2025 3:03 PM

A massive fire broke out early Saturday morning near an oil refinery in Karachi’s Korangi area. Despite more than 12 hours of firefighting efforts, the blaze continues to rage. Seven fire brigade vehicles have been deployed to tackle the fire, which started during a deep 1,800-foot excavation process at the site.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, as workers and others in the area were evacuated to safety promptly. While the fire has caused significant concern, authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire. The refinery area remains under close monitoring to ensure the safety of those nearby.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori expressed his concern about the fire and contacted Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi to discuss the situation. He urged swift action to control the blaze and requested helicopters be made available to assist in firefighting operations if needed. His immediate concern was to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Authorities are working diligently to extinguish the fire, and the situation remains tense. The persistence of the fire has raised questions about the adequacy of safety protocols at industrial sites, especially those involving hazardous materials like oil.
