K-P budget slaps higher fines on rickshaws, underage drivers

Published on: June 17, 2025 10:35 PM

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has proposed big increases in traffic fines in its 2025-26 budget. The Finance Bill includes stricter penalties for underage drivers and people using fake driving licences. Officials say the goal is to improve road safety across the province.

For the first time, a separate category has been made for three-wheeled vehicles like rickshaws and loaders. Fines for these vehicles will now range from Rs200 to Rs10,000, based on the violation. If drivers break route permit rules, they will pay Rs5,000—and double that if they repeat the offense.

The bill also targets people using fake driving documents. Offenders may be fined between Rs5,000 and Rs10,000. Officials said this move is necessary to control rising cases of forged licences and unsafe drivers on the roads.

Underage driving fines have also been revised. Teenagers riding motorcycles under 18 will now pay Rs3,000, instead of Rs1,000. For those driving small cars underage, the fine is increasing from Rs2,000 to Rs5,000.

According to government officials, these steps are meant to boost traffic discipline. They hope the fines will reduce violations and make roads safer for everyone.
