OIC foreign ministers meet in Istanbul as Iran-Israel tensions soar

Published on: June 21, 2025 2:18 PM

ISTANBUL – June 21, 2025: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ meeting is currently underway in Istanbul, Türkiye. The high-level gathering is being attended by diplomats from over 40 OIC member countries.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is present at the meeting, alongside Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who is representing Pakistan.

The two leaders—Araghchi and Dar—were seen sitting side-by-side during the session, reflecting the coordinated engagement of Islamic nations amid ongoing regional tensions.

One of the key agenda items for the session is to review the current situation in Iran, particularly following recent tensions with Israel. Ishaq Dar is expected to present Pakistan’s official stance during the discussions.

The meeting will also feature a special session focused on the Israeli attacks on Gaza and the broader Iran-Israel conflict. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to address the foreign ministers during the session, emphasizing Türkiye’s role in regional diplomacy.

Ahead of the meeting, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters that Iran reserves the right to self-defense against Israeli aggression. He stated, “Israel attacked Iran just two days before the scheduled negotiations on June 15. This proves that Israel is opposed to diplomacy.”

The OIC meeting comes at a crucial time when Middle East tensions are escalating, and member states seek a unified response to regional crises.
