LAHORE – Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has called on PTI founder Imran Khan to bring forward real political leaders within the party who have stood firm during tough times. He criticized the overseas leadership for failing to lead effectively, especially in the wake of the May 9 incidents.
Speaking to media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore, Fawad said, “The people facing court cases and enduring hardships are those who remained in Pakistan, not those enjoying life abroad.” He remarked that many of the overseas leaders would have fled the country if they were in the same situation.
Fawad stressed the need for leadership that understands the ground realities. He said the time has come for Imran Khan to empower those who have remained loyal and faced legal battles and political pressure inside Pakistan. “Leadership is not about statements from afar — it’s about standing with your people when times get tough,” he said.
On regional matters, Fawad expressed strong support for Iran amid ongoing tensions. “Pakistan should stand with its Iranian brothers,” he said, warning that any regime change in Iran could result in major losses for the region. He urged for a united stance on foreign policy issues.
Meanwhile, the ATC extended Fawad Chaudhry’s interim bail in five cases related to the May 9 riots. Judge Manzar Ali Gill granted the extension until August 8 after the prosecution said case records were currently with the Lahore High Court.
Fawad’s comments reflect growing concerns within PTI about leadership and future direction. As legal pressures continue, voices like his are pushing for change within the party and a stronger, locally rooted leadership to guide it forward.
