Jofra Archer makes comeback in England’s test squad for India series

Published on: June 26, 2025 6:02 PM

England has added fast bowler Jofra Archer to their squad for the second Test against India. The match will start on July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. This marks Archer’s first Test selection since the 2021 India tour, following a long break due to injury.

Archer missed many games because of a recurring elbow injury and a stress fracture in his back. Recently, he played his first first-class match in four years for Sussex in the County Championship. This helped him regain match fitness and confidence.

England won the first Test at Headingley by five wickets, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The only change to the squad is Archer’s inclusion, showing the team’s trust in his abilities despite his injury history.

Archer has taken 42 wickets in 13 Test matches so far. His return will add pace and experience to England’s bowling attack, which is crucial against India’s strong batting line-up.

The full England squad includes captain Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Harry Brook, and other key players. England aims to build on their early series success and maintain pressure on India in the upcoming matches.
