Shahbaz Sharif meets Iranian president, pushes for peace and cooperation

Published on: July 4, 2025 5:42 PM

In the city of Khankendi, Azerbaijan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a significant meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The discussion centered on the escalating Israeli military aggression and its devastating impact on civilians in the Palestinian territories. Both leaders expressed strong condemnation of the violence and agreed on the urgent need for de-escalation and lasting peace in the region.

Besides addressing Israeli actions, the two leaders reviewed the comprehensive cooperation between Pakistan and Iran. They discussed ongoing projects and initiatives across economic, energy, and cultural sectors, highlighting the positive progress made in strengthening bilateral relations. Both expressed optimism about accelerating collaboration to benefit their peoples.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Pezeshkian were in Azerbaijan to participate in the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), aimed at enhancing regional integration among member states. During his summit speech, Shahbaz Sharif emphatically condemned the recent killings caused by Israeli attacks, offered condolences to the Iranian people, and prayed for the swift recovery of the wounded.

Shahbaz Sharif also addressed rising tensions in South Asia, referencing recent incidents in Indian-administered Kashmir. He criticized India’s aggressive and provocative stance toward Pakistan as destabilizing efforts that threaten regional peace. The Prime Minister assured that Pakistan’s armed forces, led by Field Marshal Asim Munir, responded effectively to counter Indian military provocations.

This high-level dialogue underscores Pakistan and Iran’s shared commitment to fostering regional peace, deepening cooperation, and jointly opposing any external aggression that jeopardizes security and stability in the region.
