A walk of unity: Pakistan, Türkiye & Azerbaijan leaders bond in Khankendi

Published on: July 5, 2025 2:41 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a warm and friendly meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit.

Following the summit, the three leaders took a symbolic walk through the streets of Khankendi, surrounded by picturesque landscapes and deep-rooted history. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev personally guided his guests, sharing insights into the region’s cultural legacy, historical buildings, and the city’s strategic importance.

The interaction wasn’t limited to formal talks. In a touching moment, all three leaders walked hand in hand, a powerful gesture of unity and solidarity among Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan. The informal conversation during the walk highlighted the strong personal rapport and mutual trust shared by the leaders.

To further express his hospitality, President Aliyev drove PM Shehbaz Sharif himself to the historic city of Shusha for a special luncheon. The gesture was both symbolic and sincere, showcasing the high regard Azerbaijan holds for Pakistan’s leadership.

These moments sent a strong message to the region and beyond — of unwavering friendship, shared values, and a commitment to regional cooperation rooted in cultural and historic ties. It was more than diplomacy — it was brotherhood in action.
