The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy rainfall across many areas of Pakistan over the next two days. Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad. According to the Met Office, these downpours could lead to flash floods in vulnerable regions, especially in low-lying urban areas. Meanwhile, the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) issued a separate alert, highlighting the risk of flooding and landslides. It confirmed that 19 people had already died in weather-related incidents in Balochistan, KP, and the twin cities. NEOC also mentioned that rains could overflow rivers and streams, particularly in mountainous areas. Landslides might block roads in Murree, Swat, and other hilly zones.
Additionally, the Met Office recorded significant rainfall over the last 24 hours. Sheikhupura received 48mm, Lahore and Islamabad recorded around 40mm, and Balakot in KP had 40mm. Sindh and Balochistan also saw scattered showers, with Karachi receiving light rain. In Azad Kashmir, Muzaffarabad recorded 7mm of rainfall. These numbers reflect the intensity of the ongoing monsoon.
As a result, cities like Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar could face waterlogging. Karachi may only get light drizzle, but people in other cities should remain cautious. The PMD advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency kits ready.
