UK warns Israel of further action if Gaza ceasefire talks fail

Published on: July 8, 2025 11:50 PM

The United Kingdom has warned Israel of possible further action if it backs out of Gaza ceasefire talks. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy made the statement during a parliamentary committee meeting on foreign affairs. He said recent remarks by Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, suggesting the relocation of Gaza’s population to the south, could derail ongoing negotiations with Hamas.

Lammy stressed that such comments could seriously damage peace efforts. He warned that if Israel refuses a ceasefire or escalates tensions, the UK will consider additional measures. “Yes, we will take more actions against Israel if the ceasefire falls through,” he stated when asked directly about future steps.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza continue to claim civilian lives. In the past 24 hours alone, 80 Palestinians, including 8 aid workers, were reportedly killed. The Israeli military also claimed to have killed a Hamas commander named Taha Abu Ayadeh during the latest strikes.

Since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, over 57,575 Palestinians have been killed and more than 136,000 injured due to Israeli attacks. Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly called for an end to hostilities to allow aid and relief into the besieged strip.

On the other hand, Hamas fighters continue their counterattacks. In one incident, they claimed to have blown up an Israeli bulldozer in eastern Shuja’iyya. However, Hamas’ military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, has not yet confirmed any Israeli casualties in the attack.
