PESHAWAR – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed his desire for a change in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, highlighting growing concerns over law and order in the province. During a press conference in Peshawar on Saturday, Fazlur Rehman stated that terrorism has become widespread in Balochistan, while law and order situations in other regions, including Sindh, are deteriorating.
Fazl stressed that it is crucial to address the increasing insecurity across the country, pointing out that the situation in KP specifically requires urgent attention. He suggested that a change in leadership could come from within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in KP, implying that a shift could help resolve the existing issues. According to him, during JUI-F’s governance, the province enjoyed peace and stability, unlike the current situation.
The JUI-F leader also criticized the current KP government’s majority, calling it “fake,” and emphasized that the province cannot afford further political instability. He mentioned that any decisions regarding changes in the provincial government would be made after internal consultations within his party. In addition, he brought up the controversial merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into KP, calling it a decision made without proper consultation and urging for a reversal of the constitutional amendment.
Fazlur Rehman further stated that differences among political parties are normal but should never turn into personal hostilities. He reiterated that JUI-F would not recognize armed groups, suggesting that if PTI changes its approach, talks could be held to address the situation. He also revealed that young PTI workers often visit him, engage in discussions, and seek his advice on political matters.
Regarding potential seat adjustments with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Fazl remained cautious, stating that no comment could be made on the issue at this time. However, he mentioned that if any concerns arise with PPP, the two parties would sit down together to resolve them. To address growing law and order issues, Fazl proposed convening an All-Parties Conference (APC) to discuss possible solutions and pave the way for collective action.
