Dhaka to host ACC, India’s push denied

Published on: July 22, 2025 6:27 PM

Tensions rose between Pakistan and India over the Asia Cup 2025 meeting scheduled in Dhaka. Bangladesh Cricket Board firmly rejected India’s demand to cancel their hosting role. Instead, they supported Pakistan and the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) decision. This firm stance has given Pakistan a major diplomatic success ahead of the July 24 meeting.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked Bangladesh to step down as host. However, Bangladesh refused to yield to this pressure. Officials made it clear that the ACC annual meeting will be held in Dhaka as planned. This decision comes despite India’s attempts to shift the venue.

Earlier, India’s pressure caused Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Oman to express concerns about the meeting venue. In response, ACC President Mohsin Naqvi offered members the option to join the meeting via Zoom. Still, Bangladesh’s decision to host the meeting on-site stands firm, reflecting strong regional support for Pakistan.

The Asia Cup 2025 tournament is set to take place in India this September. The upcoming ACC meeting will discuss important issues, including neutral venues for mega-events. These talks are crucial due to the ongoing political tensions between cricket boards.

Bangladesh’s refusal to bow to Indian pressure highlights rising cricket politics in Asia. Their firm position strengthens Pakistan’s standing within the ACC. This situation adds a new layer of drama to the Asia Cup 2025 preparations. Fans and officials alike await the outcomes of the upcoming ACC meeting.
