LHC rejects Fawad Chaudhry’s pleas in May 9 cases

Published on: July 22, 2025 6:47 PM

The Lahore High Court has dismissed Fawad Chaudhry’s petitions for acquittal in four cases linked to the May 9 events. A two-member bench heard the case and gave clear instructions to his legal team. The bench included Chief Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Abhar Gul. They told Fawad’s lawyer to approach the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) instead. The court made it clear that it could not decide acquittal requests directly.

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum explained the legal position in simple words. She said the high court was not the proper forum for such requests. The trial court has the authority to make that decision, not the high court. Therefore, Fawad must file his plea there. This ruling followed all legal procedures and court protocols.

Moreover, the Chief Justice addressed Fawad’s concern during the hearing. She asked why he was worried if both witnesses supported him. This comment suggested the case might be weak. Still, the court refused to act outside its legal limits. Instead, it maintained that due process must be followed.

The May 9 cases involve several political figures across the country. Fawad Chaudhry is one of the key individuals facing charges. These cases have sparked major legal and political debates. Many are watching closely to see what happens next. The outcome may affect broader political developments in Pakistan.

In conclusion, Fawad must now move to the Anti-Terrorism Court for relief. The Lahore High Court cannot grant direct acquittal. Legal experts say this is standard procedure. It shows the court’s commitment to proper legal channels. For now, Fawad’s legal battle continues.
