CM Sindh unveils Karachi port corridor plan

Published on: July 23, 2025 4:19 PM

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced the construction of a new corridor along Shahrah-e-Bhutto. The project will connect Qayyumabad to Karachi Port, aiming to improve cargo movement and streamline access to the motorway. This new route is part of the Sindh government’s broader plan to modernize Karachi’s transport infrastructure and support economic growth.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting at CM House. Key officials, including Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, were present. CM Murad said the project would serve as a vital link between the port and motorway, offering uninterrupted access to heavy and light traffic.

The proposed corridor will follow a Design-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DFOT) model. It will stretch 16.5 km, with a 10.4 km flyover connecting Jam Sadiq Interchange to the Karachi Port. The elevated portion will pass through Boat Basin, Ziauddin Chowrangi, and East Wharf. A traffic study has already been completed.

CM Murad stressed the need to complete this segment quickly to ease industrial traffic from Port Qasim, Landhi, and Korangi. He also instructed the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) unit to obtain all necessary NOCs and complete the environmental assessment without delay.

In addition to this corridor, the chief minister reviewed other key infrastructure projects, including the Red Line BRT and redesigning of Sohrab Goth Chowrangi. He emphasized that these efforts would not only improve connectivity but also enhance Karachi’s urban landscape and efficiency.
