Why Pakistan’s coke studio beats India’s—Shilpa Rao explains

Published on: August 2, 2025 2:22 PM

Indian singer Shilpa Rao has revealed why she believes Pakistan’s Coke Studio is better than India’s version. In a recent viral video from a past TV interview, she said Pakistan treats Coke Studio as a serious and central project. In contrast, India often treats it like just another production.

Shilpa, known for Bollywood hits and performances on Indian Coke Studio, also featured in Pakistan’s Coke Studio Season 9. She performed the hit track “Paar Chanaa De” with the band Noori, which won praise across borders. She said the experience left a strong impact on her.

During the show, the host joked about how Pakistan’s Coke Studio always looks and sounds better. They mentioned its strong poetry, music quality, lighting, and set design. Shilpa agreed, explaining that the difference lies in how seriously each country takes the platform.

She also shared her love for Pakistani music legends like Farida Khanum and Iqbal Bano. She called their songs “Dasht-e-Tanhai” and “Hum Dekhenge” her all-time favorites, showing deep admiration for Pakistani poetry and music heritage.

Some Indian social media users reacted with criticism, accusing her of downplaying India’s talent. However, others appreciated her honesty and praised her for recognizing Pakistan’s musical excellence. The conversation reignited discussions on regional music quality and respect for artistic talent beyond borders.
