Lahore residents to receive waste collection bills next week

Published on: August 25, 2025 3:51 PM

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) will begin sending waste collection bills to city residents starting next week. According to an LWMC spokesperson, the billing process will begin in upscale residential areas and commercial markets. Charges will be applied based on the number of marla (unit of area), and the rollout will be phased across all nine town zones in Lahore.

The company stated that bills are currently being printed and will be delivered through revenue and operational field supervisors. Citizens will be able to pay through banks or digital payment apps. The sanitation fee was officially approved by the Punjab Cabinet earlier this month.

In urban residential areas, buildings between 5 to 40 marla will receive monthly bills ranging from Rs. 300 to Rs. 5,000. In villages, the same size properties will be billed between Rs. 200 and Rs. 400. The rates vary between residential and commercial properties, with commercial units being charged more.

This initiative follows the Punjab government’s decision on August 7 to introduce a monthly sanitation fee across the province. The Local Government Department of Punjab has clarified that urban and rural areas will be charged differently, with lower fees for residential areas.

While the billing system will eventually go digital, printed bills for the first two months will be sent manually. Online payment options will also be available for public convenience.
