Shehbaz, Aliyev pledge stronger partnership at SCO meeting

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deeper cooperation across various fields. They praised the positive direction of bilateral ties and emphasized the need to build on it. The meeting highlighted shared interests in strengthening regional peace and boosting economic growth.

PM Shehbaz congratulated President Aliyev on the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He said the agreement is a major step toward long-term peace in the South Caucasus. President Aliyev thanked him and appreciated Pakistan’s support in international matters. Both leaders agreed that peace and diplomacy remain vital for the region’s future. They also emphasized respect for sovereignty and regional stability.

During the meeting, both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, energy, defence, education, and cultural exchanges. PM Shehbaz said people-to-people contact must grow alongside state-level cooperation. President Aliyev welcomed the idea and supported increasing investments and strategic projects. The leaders also discussed joint initiatives under the SCO framework. Both sides agreed to promote regional connectivity and mutual development.

President Aliyev expressed sorrow over the recent floods in Pakistan. He assured full support from Azerbaijan in this difficult time. PM Shehbaz thanked him and said Pakistan values this friendship deeply. The gesture reflected strong solidarity between the two nations. Both leaders acknowledged the importance of standing together during natural disasters.

To conclude, PM Shehbaz invited President Aliyev to visit Pakistan soon. The invitation marked growing trust and partnership between the two countries. Officials said the meeting advanced shared goals and regional cooperation. It also reinforced Pakistan’s active role in the SCO and its commitment to strong international alliances.
