Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, will meet U.S. President Donald Trump today to discuss the recent Israeli airstrike on Doha, the Gaza ceasefire, and the release of hostages. According to international media, the meeting will address critical regional concerns, including the aftermath of the September 9 Israeli attack in Qatar’s capital, which killed six people, including the son and aide of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya.
In addition to the meeting with President Trump, the Qatari prime minister is expected to hold talks with top U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Representative Steve Witkoff. These discussions aim to push forward diplomatic efforts for de-escalation in Gaza and ensure the release of hostages still held amid the conflict.
The UN Security Council had earlier condemned the attack without naming Israel, passing a unanimous resolution against the strike on Qatari soil. Addressing the Council, Sheikh Mohammed strongly criticized the Israeli assault, calling it a violation of diplomatic norms. He stressed that Israel is sabotaging efforts to end the war in Gaza by targeting diplomatic mediation channels.
The Qatari PM assured the international community that Qatar will continue its efforts to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza. He emphasized that his country remains committed to playing a humanitarian and diplomatic role without hesitation. Qatar has previously been recognized globally for its role in brokering negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
The Israeli strike on Doha drew global criticism, with many viewing it as a serious escalation. The attack targeted a meeting of Hamas leaders, which Israel claimed was a threat, but Qatar insists it was hosting peaceful diplomatic talks.
