Malala steps up with $230K aid for flood-affected students

Published on: September 16, 2025 9:02 PM

ISLAMABAD — Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has announced $230,000 in aid to help children affected by devastating floods in Pakistan. The announcement came through a video message where Malala expressed deep concern for students who lost access to education due to widespread destruction. She emphasized the urgent need to prioritize education even during national crises. The initiative aims to provide essential items to help children return to school. Malala’s pledge reflects her ongoing commitment to education for all, especially girls.

Most of the aid — $200,000 — will go to the Idara-e-Taaleem-o-Agahi, a well-known educational nonprofit in Pakistan. The remaining $30,000 has been allocated to the Mountain Institute for Education and Development (MIED). Both organizations will use the grants to restore education in flood-affected areas. The support includes distributing books, uniforms, school supplies, and other learning materials. These efforts aim to bring normalcy back into the lives of displaced children.

Flooding in Pakistan has destroyed schools and devastated communities. My heart is with all Pakistanis in this time of crisis.

Malala stressed that countless schools across Pakistan were either damaged or destroyed during the floods. As a result, thousands of children have been left without proper learning environments. She said the grants are intended to bridge that gap and ensure no child is left behind. The initiative also aims to support teachers and rebuild classrooms where needed. According to Malala, education must be seen as part of disaster recovery, not a secondary concern.

In addition to financial aid, Malala shared her sympathy and solidarity with flood-affected families. She offered condolences to those who lost loved ones or homes due to the disaster. She said that in times of national hardship, communities must come together to protect children’s futures. Education, she insisted, offers hope and stability amid chaos. Her message resonated deeply with communities still struggling to recover.

In conclusion, the $230,000 fund highlights the urgent need to rebuild education systems in disaster zones. Malala’s initiative serves as both practical support and a powerful reminder that every child deserves the chance to learn. With the help of these grants, thousands of students could return to school and reclaim their future.
