The traffic police department has approved a summary to enhance traffic laws to reduce traffic violations and threats to lives while driving on roads.
According to details, the traffic police are going to impose heavy fines on those who violate traffic rules. According to the summary, the minimum fine/penalty for 25 different violations has been set at Rs 2,000.
Moreover, according to details, the maximum fine for violating traffic rules will be Rs 20,000, with a reduction of two to four points for each violation, and the license will be suspended for two months to one year in case of traffic violations reaching 20 points per year. Currently, fines ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500 are being collected for violations, but a fine of up to Rs 2,000 is being imposed on court orders for only five violations.
Traffic officials further informed that a fine of Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000 will be collected for overspeeding, four points will be deducted for overspeeding, a fine of Rs 2,000 to Rs 15,000 will be imposed for violating traffic signals, and four points will be deducted for violating traffic signals too.
The fine for overloading will be from Rs 2,000 to Rs 15,000, and four points will be deducted for overloading. The fine for a one-way violation will be from Rs 2,000 to Rs 15,000, and four points will be deducted for a one-way violation. The fine for dangerous driving will be from Rs 3,000 to Rs 15,000, and four points will be deducted.
There will be a fine of Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 and a deduction of two points for using a pressure horn in vehicles. The summary sent by the traffic police will be presented to the cabinet soon. After the cabinet’s approval, implementation will start across Punjab.
The e-challaning system is in the final stages of eliminating manual challaning.
