Ishaq Dar, Hungarian FM pledge stronger cooperation

Published on: September 23, 2025 7:19 PM

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly session, pledging to deepen Pakistan-Hungary bilateral ties. Both leaders highlighted the importance of strengthening relations through expanded collaboration in multiple sectors. Their meeting underlined the mutual desire to explore new opportunities and address shared challenges through enhanced diplomatic and economic engagement.

During the discussion, the two ministers focused on increasing cooperation in trade, investment, and higher education, recognizing these areas as key drivers of sustainable development. They agreed to explore new trade routes, encourage private sector investment, and promote academic exchange programs that could benefit both nations. The leaders emphasized that broader economic cooperation would create jobs, stimulate innovation, and open new markets for businesses in Pakistan and Hungary.

The meeting also stressed the importance of people-to-people connections in building long-lasting partnerships between the two countries. Both sides acknowledged that cultural and academic exchanges could serve as bridges, fostering better understanding and collaboration. Strengthening such ties, they said, would enhance mutual trust and lay a foundation for long-term cooperation in a rapidly changing global environment.

Earlier in the UNGA session, Ishaq Dar had also engaged with other key figures, including Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand. These meetings focused on boosting regional collaboration and institutional partnerships, with shared commitments to advancing peace, stability, and economic growth. The discussions showcased Pakistan’s proactive approach to building diverse global alliances.

The Pakistan-Hungary talks signal a renewed commitment to expanding strategic cooperation while broadening international partnerships. Observers believe that by working closely with European partners like Hungary, Pakistan can diversify its foreign relations, attract investments, and enhance its global standing. This approach, combined with broader regional diplomacy, highlights Pakistan’s focus on strengthening ties that can deliver meaningful economic and educational benefits.
