Islamabad schools to introduce artificial intelligence learning

Published on: September 26, 2025 4:36 PM

Students in Islamabad’s federal schools will now be introduced to artificial intelligence (AI) as part of their curriculum, marking a significant step toward modernizing education in Pakistan. The initiative aims to prepare young learners with essential digital skills that are becoming increasingly important in today’s fast-changing world. Authorities believe that incorporating AI at an early stage will empower students with knowledge that aligns with global trends and future job market demands.

The project is scheduled to begin from the eighth grade, where AI-powered systems will be used to deliver the national curriculum. By using this approach, educators hope to make lessons more interactive, efficient, and personalized for every student. This shift reflects the growing recognition that technology-driven education can improve learning outcomes and make students better prepared for higher education and professional careers. Teachers will also be trained to effectively use these tools for maximum impact.

Initially, a pilot project will be launched in one urban and one rural school, allowing authorities to test the effectiveness of the AI-based system in different environments. The pilot will serve as a foundation to identify challenges, gather feedback, and assess the benefits of digital learning methods. Officials explained that the trial run will provide valuable insights into how AI can be adapted to varying educational needs across Pakistan’s diverse regions.

If the pilot project proves successful, the program will be expanded to reach as many as 100,000 students across federal schools. This large-scale rollout would represent one of the most ambitious educational reforms in the country’s recent history. By expanding access to AI-assisted learning, authorities aim to ensure that students from both urban and rural backgrounds are equally equipped to thrive in the digital era.

The Pakistan Institute of Education has been tasked with conducting a detailed review of the project, ensuring its progress is carefully evaluated and continuously improved. This evaluation will focus on student performance, teacher readiness, and overall system effectiveness. Furthermore, experts stressed that the program’s success will rely heavily on providing technical support and ensuring equal access to technology for all participating schools.

To formalize the initiative, the Federal Directorate of Education has signed an agreement with MindHive, a leading technology partner. This collaboration is expected to provide the technical expertise and resources necessary to implement AI in classrooms effectively. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the project could transform Pakistan’s educational landscape by introducing innovation, reducing learning gaps, and equipping the youth with skills essential for future success.
