Wahab presents Pakistan’s perspective on climate change at int’l mayors forum

Published on: October 16, 2025 12:46 AM

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab participated in the International Mayors Forum 2025 held in Toyota City, Japan, where mayors from around the world shared their experiences and strategies related to climate change, sustainable development, and urban planning. On this occasion, the Mayor Karachi discussed in detail the initiatives taken by Pakistan-particularly the Sindh Government-to address the challenges of climate change. Global leaders participating in the forum emphasized climate resilience, the promotion of green infrastructure in urban planning, and the efficient use of energy resources. In his address, Mayor Karachi stated that with the cooperation of the Sindh Government, a comprehensive strategy has been adopted to mitigate the impacts of climate change and achieve the goals of sustainable development, the positive results of which have begun to emerge. He said that Pakistan’s active participation at the global level reflects the country’s determination and seriousness in addressing climate-related challenges. The Mayor mentioned that following the devastating floods of 2022, the Sindh Government launched a historic project to construct 2.1 million Climate Resilient Homes, of which 1.2 million have already been completed. He added that the construction of homes for flood victims is not merely a process of rehabilitation but a guarantee of a sustainable and secure future. He emphasized that Sindh is confronting climate challenges through modern policies, effective planning, and practical measures. Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab further stated that Pakistan is expressing its strong resolve against climate change at global forums-not only to ensure a safe future for its citizens but also to strengthen worldwide efforts for environmental protection in collaboration with the international community. He expressed hope that through global cooperation, technology transfer, and partnerships, the effects of climate change can be mitigated-and that this forms the true foundation of sustainable development.
