Special unit to be set up in Punjab Revenue Authority to boost tax collection

LAHORE – The Punjab government has announced the creation of a special unit within the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) aimed at enhancing tax collection, broadening the tax base, and ensuring transparency in revenue processes.

The decision came during a high-level meeting on revenue collection, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The new special unit will consist of field officers, tax consultants, legal experts, and data analysts, working together to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the authority’s operations.

Chief Minister Maryam set an October 30 deadline for expanding the PRA’s jurisdiction to all 30 districts of Punjab. Additionally, the recruitment of 130 enforcement officers has been approved to strengthen field operations.

Officials also reviewed a proposal to include 19 new sectors under the tax net to increase provincial revenue. The authority’s additional responsibilities will now be managed by additional deputy commissioners (general) in each district.
