PML-N quits AJK government, rejects ‘unnatural alliance’

Published on: October 21, 2025 6:34 PM

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has officially left the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government. PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir announced the decision on Tuesday. He said the party will no longer support any “unnatural” government formation process. Instead, PML-N will now sit in opposition.

Qadir stated that if the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) moves a vote of no confidence, it is their democratic right. However, he made clear that PML-N will not support any move that conflicts with its principles. He also warned that party members who disobey this policy will face disciplinary action.

He stressed that a stable AJK government can only come through transparent general elections. Meanwhile, Qadir assured that PML-N remains focused on the welfare of refugees and overseas Kashmiris. He called PML-N AJK an organized and popular political force in the region.

Qadir vowed the party will continue to play a constructive role in solving AJK’s constitutional and political crises. He confirmed PML-N will run a strong election campaign under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif. This marks a significant shift in AJK’s political landscape.
