Sinner fights back against Zverev to claim 'special' Vienna crown

VIENNA –  Jannik Sinner captured his fourth title of the 2025 season on Sunday after a thrilling comeback victory over Alexander Zverev in the Vienna Open final. The Italian star recovered from a set down to triumph 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, securing the 22nd ATP title of his career.

It marked Sinner’s second Vienna crown after his 2023 win and extended his remarkable unbeaten run on indoor hard courts to 21 matches. The top seed, however, had to dig deep after Zverev took early control, breaking once in the first set to lead the match.

“It was such a difficult start in this final for me,” Sinner admitted. “He was serving very well, but I just tried to stay mentally strong and play my best tennis when it mattered.” The world number four responded strongly, racing to a 3-0 lead in the second set to force a decider.

Despite struggling with a minor thigh issue, Sinner maintained his composure in the final set. He broke Zverev at 5-all with a stunning backhand winner and sealed the victory with a confident service game, delighting the Vienna crowd.

This victory adds to Sinner’s impressive 2025 season, with earlier titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and Beijing. The 24-year-old will head to the Paris Masters brimming with confidence, aiming to continue his exceptional form on indoor surfaces.
