AJK PM delays resignation, seeks guarantees for ministers

Published on: October 29, 2025 4:04 PM

Muzaffarabad: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has set conditions before stepping down. Sources said he demanded assurances regarding development funds and ongoing projects for his supporting ministers and assembly members. He also insisted that PML-N ministers and ticket holders receive equal funding before the next elections.

The move comes as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) agreed to table a no-confidence motion against him. Sources claim the PPP has already secured the backing of 36 assembly members for the motion.

Despite the pressure, Anwarul Haq has not resigned. He stated that if the opposing parties have the required numbers, they should go ahead and table the no-confidence motion.

The premier’s conditions reflect his focus on ensuring development continuity and financial equity for his allies. Political observers say the situation highlights growing tensions between PML-N, PPP, and the AJK government.

The coming days are expected to be critical for AJK politics. Lawmakers will decide whether the no-confidence motion will proceed or if negotiations will lead to a compromise before formal proceedings begin.
