PSL set to expand: CEO announces auction for two new teams

Published on: October 29, 2025 6:08 PM

Karachi: Pakistan Super League (PSL) CEO Salman Naseer announced an auction for two new franchises. Bidding parties will select teams from a pool of city names. The auction aims to expand the league and increase competition. Naseer said the process will follow strict guidelines to ensure transparency and fairness for all participants.

He recalled the league’s early years, saying many doubted PSL’s potential. “Five parties trusted us and bought teams despite criticism,” he added. He emphasized that the league overcame challenges and grew steadily. Over time, PSL became a leading cricket tournament in Pakistan, attracting investors and fans nationwide.

Naseer explained that after 10 years, all PSL franchise contracts ended. The league decided to revalue team prices before the 10th edition. This revaluation will help set fair values for the two new teams. The auction reflects PSL’s growth and strengthens its long-term business strategy.

He confirmed that Habib Bank Limited (HBL) will remain the league sponsor for the next two years. The new sponsorship deal increased 505% compared to the previous contract. Naseer said this reflects confidence in PSL’s popularity and financial stability. The league expects more investment and greater fan engagement in coming seasons.

Naseer expressed optimism about the future, saying the new franchises will boost competition and attract fresh talent. He encouraged investors to participate actively and promised full support from the PSL management. The expansion signals PSL’s commitment to growing cricket in Pakistan and strengthening its international profile.
