Pakistan approves new international airport in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir

Published on: October 30, 2025 9:30 PM

Pakistan has approved the construction of a new international airport in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The project aims to provide modern air travel facilities for millions of citizens living locally and abroad. Officials expect construction to begin within the current fiscal year, marking a major step in regional connectivity.

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has started the technical feasibility process for the airport. This includes identifying a suitable site and conducting initial evaluations. Officials said these assessments are likely to be completed by December 2025. The feasibility study will guide final design and construction planning.

Once the technical and design approvals are finalized, the groundbreaking ceremony will be announced. Construction will officially commence, turning this long-awaited infrastructure project into reality. Authorities emphasized that timely completion of all approvals is a priority for the airport’s development.

The Mirpur International Airport will improve travel access for residents and overseas Pakistanis from Mirpur and nearby districts. Direct flights will reduce reliance on distant airports in Islamabad and other provinces. This is expected to make travel faster and more convenient for millions of citizens.
