Fawad Chaudhry regrets KP CM’s repeated denial to meet Imran Khan in jail

Published on: October 31, 2025 11:52 AM

LAHORE – Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry on Friday expressed disappointment over the denial of a meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, calling the situation “regrettable and humiliating.”

Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Chaudhry said this was the fourth time that the KP CM had been refused permission to meet Khan. He criticised the authorities for preventing the meeting, suggesting that such actions only deepen political rifts rather than resolve them.

“The CM of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has once again been denied access to meet Imran Khan in jail — this is both unnecessary and humiliating,” Chaudhry remarked. He added that the current PTI leadership lacks maturity, and Sohail Afridi could play a key role in building consensus and securing Khan’s release.

The former information minister further urged Afridi to also meet Shah Mahmood Qureshi and other senior PTI leaders imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail, saying such engagements could help ease political tensions and promote constructive dialogue.

Commenting separately on the ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Chaudhry supported the move, describing the group as “violent in nature” and stating that imposing restrictions on such elements is the right decision for maintaining law and order.
