KARACHI: The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that the validity of Umrah visas will be reduced from three months to one month from the date of issuance, Al Arabiya.net reported on Friday.
The new rule, set to take effect next week, also stipulates that the visa will be automatically cancelled 30 days after issuance if the pilgrim does not enter the Kingdom within that period.
However, the change will not affect the duration of stay once the pilgrim arrives in Saudi Arabia. All Umrah visitors will still be permitted to stay for up to three months after entry.

According to Ahmed Bajafar, adviser to the National Committee for Umrah and Visit, the amendment aims to prevent overcrowding in Makkah and Madina during the cooler months when the number of pilgrims typically rises.
Although Umrah rituals are performed in Makkah, many pilgrims also take the opportunity to visit Madina during their stay.
In October, the Saudi government introduced stricter Umrah regulations, including mandatory pre-booking of accommodation and verification of transport arrangements through the Nusuk or Masar platforms upon arrival. The Kingdom has also reaffirmed that holders of all visa types are eligible to perform Umrah during their visit.
