MQM-P MPA granted bail amid Karachi dumper incident protests

Published on: November 6, 2025 12:26 PM

KARACHI: Sindh MPA Kamran Farooq of the Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has been granted bail before arrest until November 10, with surety bonds of Rs 30,000. The case against him was registered under the PECA Act at Karachi’s Garden Police Station after he visited the site of a fatal traffic incident involving a motorcyclist.

Two days ago, a garbage dumper ran over a motorcyclist, killing him and injuring his wife, prompting enraged locals to damage and set the vehicle on fire. When Kamran Farooq visited the scene to assess the situation, the case was filed against him. Farooq criticized authorities, saying that cases should target the culprits rather than public representatives.

Further escalating the situation, Liaquat Mehsood, President of the All Dumper Truck Owners Association, reportedly arrived at the scene with 20–25 armed men and opened fire on protestors. Police have arrested one gunman, identified as Mairaj, and recovered a weapon. SSP City confirmed that raids are ongoing to apprehend Mehsood and his associates.

Another tragic incident occurred near Hospital Chowrangi in Landhi, where a speeding dumper killed 20-year-old Kashan and injured 19-year-old Javed. The growing number of accidents involving dumpers has fueled public outrage, with citizens demanding stricter enforcement of traffic laws and accountability for reckless drivers.
