LAHORE: The Punjab government has once again extended the province-wide ban on protests, rallies, sit-ins, and public gatherings for another week, citing persistent security threats and concerns over public order. This marks the fourth consecutive extension of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, by the provincial home department.

The previous order expired on Saturday, prompting the home department to reimpose the restrictions through a fresh notification on Sunday. The ban, first introduced on October 8 for 10 days, has since been extended on October 18, October 25, November 2, and now November 9, each time for a week-long period.
According to the notification, the prohibition covers all forms of public assembly, rallies, and processions involving four or more people in public places, streets, or open spaces. It also bans the carrying of arms, the use of loudspeakers, and the publication or dissemination of material deemed provocative or capable of inciting unrest.

The home department said that fresh intelligence and law enforcement reports continue to highlight significant threats to peace and public safety. It added that the decision to maintain restrictions is aimed at preventing potential disturbances, safeguarding citizens, and maintaining sectarian and interfaith harmony across the province.
