Punjab halts computerization of manual gun licenses

Published on: November 13, 2025 9:15 PM

Punjab government has stopped the computerization of manual gun licenses, halting the revalidation process. Officials issued new orders for individuals, institutions, and security companies. Reports from March to November are now being collected for review.

The decision cancels all previous directives regarding manual license computerization. The Punjab Home Department has issued instructions to all divisional commissioners and additional secretaries. Officials must submit detailed reports on licenses processed since March.

Citizens and companies were previously given a final opportunity to computerize their manual licenses. Now, any pending applications or revalidations are suspended indefinitely. The department aims to ensure updated and verified records of all licensed firearms.

In addition, authorities have requested information on illegal weapons collection and deweaponization campaigns across Punjab. Commissioners and deputy commissioners must submit reports by the evening of November 13. The government seeks complete oversight of firearm management in all districts.

The computerization initiative initially began in 2016, with a final deadline of December 31, 2020. Licenses not computerized by then were canceled. The latest directive reinforces strict compliance with firearm regulations across the province.
