Kashmir Explosion Kills Nine, Injures Dozens

A powerful Kashmir explosion at the Nowgam police station in Srinagar killed nine people and injured 27 late Friday night. Officials said the blast came from a large pile of confiscated explosives stored inside the building. Most victims were policemen and forensic staff who were collecting samples. The explosion shook the area and created fear among nearby residents.

Authorities confirmed that the dead included members of the Forensic Science Laboratory, revenue staff, police photographers and an investigator. A tailor also died in the incident. Meanwhile, 24 police officers and three civilians were taken to different hospitals with serious injuries. Rescue teams struggled to reach victims because repeated small blasts continued after the main explosion.

The Kashmir explosion destroyed much of the police station. Walls collapsed and debris blocked hallways, slowing rescue work. Bomb disposal squads found the scene unsafe due to ongoing secondary explosions. Security forces sealed the area and began a detailed search. Officials described the situation as extremely risky and demanded extra caution.

This blast happened only four days after a deadly car explosion in New Delhi that killed eight people. India called that attack an act of terrorism. Investigators are now checking for any link between the two incidents. The National Investigation Agency is leading the probe but has not confirmed any suspects. Indian media have tied the New Delhi blast to earlier arrests involving weapons and explosives.

Following the Kashmir explosion, Indian police carried out raids across occupied Kashmir. Officers searched several sites, including Al-Falah University and a house later demolished in Pulwama. Officials said the raids aim to tighten security and prevent more attacks. However, they did not confirm any direct link to the incident. The region remains tense as authorities continue investigating the Kashmir explosion.
