Canada approves November 23 Khalistan Referendum, Sikhs for justice welcomes decision
OTTAWA – The Canadian government has officially approved the holding of the Khalistan Referendum on November 23, a decision welcomed by the global Sikh advocacy group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ). The vote will take place at Ottawa’s historic Billings Estate National Historic Site, where preparations are already underway.

Thousands of Sikhs from the United States, Europe, and other countries are expected to arrive in Canada to participate in what SFJ describes as a key political event for the Sikh community. In a video statement, SFJ’s General Counsel Gurpatwant Singh Pannun praised the Canadian government for recognizing the Sikh community’s democratic and peaceful right to express political opinion.

Pannun called the referendum “a peaceful and entirely legal democratic process” and emphasized that the event marks an important stage in the Sikh nation’s struggle for the right to self-determination. He also encouraged Sikh voters to cast their ballots responsibly on November 23 at the Billings Estate.

SFJ noted that the global Sikh community will continue to pursue political expression through democratic means, with worldwide participation set to culminate on November 24. Observers say Canada’s approval underscores the country’s commitment to freedom of expression and democratic rights.
