Vivek Oberoi says even superstars like Shah Rukh Khan may fade from memory

Fame fades: Vivek Oberoi discusses the evolution of stardom
MUMBAI: Actor Vivek Oberoi reflected on the fleeting nature of fame in Bollywood, suggesting that even icons like Shah Rukh Khan may one day be forgotten.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Oberoi explained how audiences evolve with each generation, noting that stars who dominated in the past are often unknown to younger fans today. “Which film, starring who worked in the 1960s, you ask anyone about that today, nobody cares. You will anyway be relegated to history,” he said.

He further added, “2050 mein log bolenge kaun Shah Rukh Khan, shayad (In 2050, people might ask, ‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan?’, perhaps.),” referencing how legends like Raj Kapoor are revered by older generations but not necessarily recognized by younger fans.

Oberoi emphasized that history tends to relegate even the most celebrated stars into obscurity over time, regardless of their iconic status or achievements.

Shah Rukh Khan continues to remain a dominant figure in Indian cinema, with major releases like Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki in 2023, and his upcoming film King, directed by Siddharth Anand, already generating excitement.
