Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take swift action against those allegedly responsible for mistreating the sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. In a formal letter, Afridi called for strict adherence to court-ordered visitation rights that allow Khan’s close family members to meet him at Adiala Jail on designated days.

Afridi noted that despite “clear and binding” judicial instructions, reports continued to surface regarding non-compliance by the authorities. His concerns heightened after the brief detention of Khan’s sisters — Aleema Khan, Noreen Khan Niazi and Uzma Khanum — who were taken into custody during a sit-in on Adiala Road. The protest began when they were denied permission to meet their incarcerated brother.

According to the KP chief minister, the sisters, joined by PTI workers, were peacefully demanding their right to visitation when police intervened. Following failed negotiations, law enforcement dispersed the demonstrators and detained several individuals, including Khan’s sisters. Afridi described the incident as “disturbing,” stressing that the women were private citizens merely seeking access granted by the court.

Afridi criticized the obstruction and alleged mishandling as a violation of due process and judicial directives. He urged CM Maryam to ensure a dignified space for authorised visitors, hold accountable the officers involved, and implement a transparent mechanism to prevent future disruptions. He emphasised that the dignity of a former prime minister and his family must not be compromised.

Concluding his letter, Afridi insisted that the matter be resolved “promptly and decisively” in line with the law, reiterating that such incidents create the impression of deliberate disregard for court orders.
