At least three terrorists were killed while three Federal Constabulary (FC) personnel were martyred after security forces foiled an attack on the FC Headquarters in Peshawar on Monday morning, officials confirmed. The attack occurred in the Saddar area, one of the city’s busiest sectors, raising immediate security concerns.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed said three suicide bombers attempted to enter the FC compound. “One attacker detonated himself at the main gate, while two others tried to breach the premises,” he stated. FC personnel swiftly engaged the attackers, killing the two inside the headquarters and recovered two suicide vests and eight hand grenades.. Dr Saeed highlighted that the timely response prevented a potentially major incident.
Deputy Commandant of the FC, Javed Iqbal, also confirmed the elimination of all three attackers. He added that a comprehensive search operation was underway to ensure no further threat remained. In total, ten people, including three FC personnel and seven civilians, were injured in the attack and rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH). Hospital officials confirmed that all injured were in stable condition.

The attack drew strong condemnation from Pakistan’s top leadership. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their prompt action and reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism.

President Asif Ali Zardari extended condolences to the martyrs’ families, emphasizing that externally-backed terrorist plots cannot weaken Pakistan’s unity or resolve. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also paid tribute to the martyrs and security forces, noting that such attacks would not weaken public morale.

Terrorist incidents have surged in Pakistan, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the Afghan Taliban’s rise to power in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly called on Kabul and the international community to address terrorist safe havens across the border. Recent talks mediated by Qatar and Turkey ended without a breakthrough, as Pakistan described the Taliban’s position as unrealistic.
