Outgoing CJCSC Gen Mirza stresses strong defence as key to national security

ISLAMABAD – Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, set to retire on November 27, said a robust national defence remains an essential pillar of national security in the current geo-strategic environment.

He made the remarks during a farewell ceremony at Joint Staff Headquarters, marking the conclusion of his 40 years of distinguished military service, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The event was attended by former CJCSCs and senior tri-services officers.

“In his address, the outgoing CJCSC expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty for granting him the strength to perform his duties with dedication, professionalism, and selfless devotion,” the ISPR said. General Mirza paid tribute to the Armed Forces for their unwavering sacrifices and honoured the martyrs and their families.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s defence remains impregnable and said that the nation’s valiant officers and soldiers stand ever-ready to strengthen it further. Upon his arrival at the headquarters, a tri-services contingent presented a ‘Guard of Honour’ to the outgoing CJCSC.

Earlier, General Mirza visited Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at GHQ. The ISPR noted that the field marshal commended the outgoing general for his exemplary leadership, strategic foresight, and dedication to the Pakistan Armed Forces.

Gen Mirza will be the last CJCSC, as the position will cease to exist following his retirement under changes made by the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Afterward, the COAS will assume the role of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), marking a new chapter in Pakistan’s military command structure.
