Kremlin stresses peace, calls Zelenskiy’s government invalid

Published on: November 28, 2025 3:59 PM

Russia says it wants to move toward peace in Ukraine, despite calling President Volodymyr Zelenskiy illegitimate. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement on Friday. Officials emphasized that Russia’s position does not preclude future negotiations.

President Vladimir Putin claims Zelenskiy’s term has expired, questioning the legitimacy of Ukraine’s leadership. The Kremlin insists it remains open to discussions but views Ukraine’s current government as invalid.

Interfax reports that Russian officials say it is too early to predict if peace is near. Moscow continues to stress the need for security guarantees before meaningful talks can occur.

Ukraine rejects Russia’s claims, saying new elections cannot be held under martial law. Ukrainian officials emphasize their right to defend territorial integrity while maintaining constitutional governance.
