Punjab launches Clean Punjab Authority with 41 new agencies

Published on: November 28, 2025 11:40 PM

The Punjab government has formally established the Clean Punjab Authority under a new gazette notification. The move aims to improve sanitation and waste management across the province. A total of 41 Clean Punjab agencies have been created by merging ten previous waste management companies.

The Authority will monitor cleanliness operations and develop mechanisms for waste management, including converting garbage into electricity. It will also oversee sanitation projects and ensure environmental and public-friendly initiatives are implemented across districts.

The Chief Minister of Punjab will serve as the Authority’s chairperson, while the Local Government Minister will be vice-chairperson. District Deputy Commissioners will act as chairpersons of district-level Clean Punjab agencies, managing daily operations and project implementation.

Decisions of the Authority will be executed by the Chief Minister and district agencies, while the ten solid waste management companies will operate under its supervision. The goal is to transform waste into productive resources while maintaining environmental standards.

The Authority will also manage human resources, property, funds, pensions, machinery, and contracts at the district level. Initiatives such as waste-to-energy and rural sanitation projects aim to benefit citizens and create a cleaner, more sustainable Punjab.
