Waseem triumphs: Pakistan’s pride defends boxing crown

Lahore hosted a four-day International Boxing Championship, where Pakistan’s Muhammad Waseem successfully defended his WBA Gold Bantamweight title. The finale, “Fight for Glory,” drew huge crowds, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The event featured 44 boxers from 15 countries competing across 21 bouts.

On the final day, Waseem faced Thai boxer Jakrawat in a 12-round battle, emerging victorious. After winning, Waseem thanked fans, the Punjab government, and the Pakistan Army for their support and security. The championship ensured top-level safety for all international participants.

The event began on November 20, with boxers arriving in Pakistan and receiving a warm welcome. Alongside matches, a boxing convention was held to promote the sport and provide international exposure. The championship was organized with support from the Punjab government, Lahore Corps, and the Fauji Foundation.

Previous days featured exciting bouts with competitors from Germany, Thailand, the Netherlands, Britain, Ghana, the Dominican Republic, the USA, South Korea, Argentina, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Bangladesh. Notable winners included Pakistan’s Asim Zaman, Germany’s Zina Nasr, Britain’s Tom Dearing, and Argentina’s Alberto Palmita. High-ranking officials attended as guests, highlighting the championship’s significance.

Today, boxers from 12 countries, including Pakistan, Thailand, Britain, Morocco, France, Mexico, and the USA, competed in the final matches. The most anticipated fight was between Pakistani Falcon boxer Muhammad Waseem and his opponent, concluding the championship on a high note.
