Munir, Egyptian FM push for stronger defence ties

Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty in Rawalpindi on Monday. They reviewed Pakistan–Egypt relations with a clear focus on defence and security cooperation. They also discussed military contacts, training partnerships, and regional stability.

ISPR said both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen coordination. They agreed to deepen long-standing ties in defence and other strategic areas. Moreover, the Egyptian minister conveyed warm greetings from his leadership. He also expressed Egypt’s interest in expanding cooperation across multiple fields.

The meeting underscored the need for sustained high-level exchanges. Both sides stressed that regular engagement was vital for addressing emerging regional challenges. They noted the importance of working together amid shifting security dynamics.

The visit followed earlier talks in Islamabad on Sunday. Pakistan and Egypt had already reaffirmed plans to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, security, and agriculture. They also highlighted the value of broad people-to-people contact.

Both countries agreed to revive key institutional mechanisms. These included the Joint Ministerial Commission and Annual Bilateral Consultations. They stressed that structured dialogue would support stable and mutually beneficial ties.
