Trump warns Israel against destabilizing Syria

Trump warns Israel not to 'interfere' in Syria
WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has warned Israel not to interfere in Syria, following a deadly Israeli operation that killed 13 people in the southern village of Beit Jin. Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue with Syria and supporting the country’s efforts to stabilize and rebuild under its new leadership.

Trump spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, inviting him for another visit to the White House. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said, “It is very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous State.”

The warning comes amid rising tensions over repeated Israeli strikes on Syria, which Israel says target Islamist militant groups, including Jamaa Islamiya. Syria condemned the Beit Jin operation as a “war crime,” while Israel defended it as necessary to counter threats linked to Hamas.

Trump praised Syria’s new leadership under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, whose Islamist coalition took power a year ago. He highlighted efforts to ensure “good things happen” and envisioned a long and prosperous relationship between Syria and Israel. The US has lifted some sanctions and is supporting Damascus’ role in the global coalition against the Islamic State.

The conversation between Trump and Netanyahu also touched on expanding regional peace agreements, following the fragile Gaza ceasefire in October. The Israeli prime minister reiterated Israel’s commitment to disarming Hamas and maintaining security along its borders, including the Golan Heights buffer zone.

Despite recent tensions, Trump’s administration appears focused on a broader Middle East peace initiative, seeking stability in Syria and enhanced cooperation with Israel. Analysts say the dialogue reflects US efforts to balance regional security concerns with diplomatic engagement.
