‘Ghost School’ shines at Red Sea Film Festival

Published on: December 5, 2025 12:58 AM

Pakistani film “Ghost School” has been officially selected for screening at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2025.

A remarkable aspect of this achievement is that Pakistan is participating in the Red Sea Film Festival for the very first time, made possible through the efforts of Nausheen Waseem and compelling direction of Seemab Gull. The prestigious festival will take place in Jeddah from December 4 to 13.

The inclusion of Ghost School is being hailed as a major milestone for Pakistani cinema, reflecting the country’s growing presence and recognition on the global film stage.

Ghost School reveals how the powerful systems fail the most innocent. The film blends heartbreak with hope, offering a vision of a better future for children like Rabia.

The film follows Rabia, a brave 10-year-old who sets out to uncover the real reason behind her school’s sudden closure. Whispered tales of supernatural happenings spread throughout the community, her journey exposes a society trapped between superstition and corruption.

Through her quest, the film explores themes of superstition, lack of educational access, and deep-rooted social issues within rural societies.

Before arriving at the Red Sea Festival, the film had already gained international attention following its world premiere at the ‘Toronto International Film Festival’. At Red Sea, it has been placed in the ‘Families and Children’ category and will be screened on ‘December 11 at 3pm at Jeddah’s Culture Square’.
