KP Police to Launch Pakistan’s First Drone Unit

Published on: December 10, 2025 1:00 PM

Pakistan’s First Drone Unit

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have announced plans to establish Pakistan’s first dedicated drone technology unit. Officials confirmed the decision on Wednesday. The unit aims to strengthen counterterrorism capabilities across the province. Authorities say it will enhance surveillance, operational response, and security measures.

The new drone unit will be based at the Nowshera Police Training Centre. It will include anti-drone systems, surveillance drones, attack drones, operational drones, and jamming equipment. Officials said the unit will feature state-of-the-art technology for both defensive and offensive operations.

Initial groundwork for the unit has already begun, authorities added. A specialized IT team is designing and developing the drone systems. Personnel selected for the unit are undergoing specialized drone-technology training. Additionally, a modern IT course has been launched for the first batch of trainees.

The drone teams will be equipped with high-resolution cameras, attack drones, and advanced jamming systems. KP Police successfully conducted trial flights and technology tests last month. Officials said these tests validated the systems’ effectiveness in real operational scenarios.

Once training is completed, the drone teams will be deployed across multiple districts. Priority deployment will be in southern regions where militants increasingly use drones. Authorities stressed that the unit will enhance real-time monitoring and rapid response during security operations.

This initiative follows KP Police’s earlier formation of a specialized Sniper Squad. The sniper units are equipped with advanced weapons and modern tactical training. Each unit consists of 10 highly trained personnel capable of engaging long-range and concealed targets with precision.

According to the Central Police Office (CPO) Peshawar, sniper squads will operate in mountainous valleys, border belts, and southern districts. The combined drone and sniper initiatives aim to strengthen KP Police’s counterterrorism operations. Authorities said the measures will improve security and protect civilians across high-risk areas.
