India names T20 World Cup squad; Gill dropped

India has named its squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, to be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7. Surya Kumar Yadav will lead the team, while Axar Patel has been appointed vice-captain. Key player Shubman Gill has been left out, surprising fans and analysts alike.

The squad includes Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya, and Shubman Dhube. These players bring a mix of experience and youth to the team. Their performances in recent domestic and international matches influenced their selection.

Other players named are Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Ranko Singh, Kuldip Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Washington Sundar, and Ishan Kishan. Each player was selected based on form, fitness, and versatility in T20 conditions.

Shubman Gill, previously vice-captain, missed the squad despite strong performances in domestic tournaments. Axar Patel replaces him as vice-captain, bringing leadership experience and consistency with both bat and ball. The change has sparked debate among cricket fans and experts.
