Islamabad enforces mandatory M-tag entry rule

Published on: December 28, 2025 6:07 PM

Islamabad will bar vehicles without an M-Tag from entering the city starting January 1, as authorities tighten security controls and accelerate plans to modernize the capital’s transport monitoring system.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the decision while chairing a high-level meeting, stressing that the step will improve security screening, traffic management, and digital tracking across key entry and exit points.

Moreover, he directed officials to speed up work on transforming existing infrastructure into a Capital Smart City framework, aiming to integrate surveillance cameras, data analytics, and real-time monitoring for stronger public safety coverage.

During his visit, Naqvi, accompanied by Talal Chaudhry, toured the Safe City Headquarters, reviewed live feeds on the digital wall, and assessed how technology supports law enforcement operations.
